Why do most all white people think rap music defines all black people?
Is that a result of stereotyping? Or just plain prejudice? Or racism?
And yet when white people realize they are doing this they swear they are not being prejudice, racist, or stereotyping an entire race. And will give another reason as of to why they think all black people are the same based on rap music.
It’s not that they think rap music defines black people. More like they want to define black people by rap music. Most people who listen to rap are white ppl. Just think about it. Why is it if a rapper rap about something good and is not stereptypical, white ppl don’t want to buy the music? Then when rappers are stereotypical and rap about sex and violence, white ppl listen to it? It’s no doubt that most black music is negative…not because black ppl are negative, but because whites only want to listen to negative music by black ppl. On the other hand, whites can make music about anything and it’s okay.
In general, whites do not want to perceive blacks other than ghetto and negative. Positive rap or nuetral rap struggle to make mainstream because white ppl do not want to see blacks beyond ghettoness.
What makes you think all white people think the same way?
I don’t think that, but honestly any white rapper I know…can’t rap
Um… you just stereotyped all white people with your question. Sounds like you need to check your own prejudices before you criticize others.
Why do black people call me white boy even though they know my name?
SusieQ has a point
rap doesn’t define race! its a type of music. a lot of white kids like rap. and rap music could be good. it could be an art like other types of music
Did you actually read what you put here yourself?
Why do most all white people…(assuming most of the white people…whoever they are…have this judgment)
Defining all black people with rap music?…
really now..before making a statement like this. try not to make the exact same statement within your own!
Why do you post all these questions in the feminism forum?
Kill Whitey!
Stop going on and on about WHITE people, its getting saddoe!
Psychological answer:
Because black people define themselves with rap music, and because they DO mostly act the same, to define themselves. They think that they are black, ergo they should like rap music like everyone else. I have seen this happen to a number of my classmates as they entered high school. Out of say, fifty black kids that I know, only one doesn’t act like that. He wears sweaters and wanted to be in show choir, but that’s why he’s an awesome guy. He tried hip-hop culture briefly, but hated being who he wasn’t.
The same way that girls wear Ugg boots because they’re white and rich. Almost everyone does it. At an age where identity is being formed, it’s much easier to pretend you are what the media tells you to be.
What you want to hear:
Because white people are bad.
this question you just posted is in the wrong section! and before you post a question like this, check yourself.
Ur funny, stereotyping one group of people while complaining about the stereotyping they all supposedly do to another group of people.
I know black people that hate rap music. The black people I know like gospel, soul, easy listening, rock, pop. In fact, I personally don’t know any that like rap.
I think you are being racist by making such a generality about how white people think about rap music and racism. I don’t even think all rap artists are alike, so how could they all being unique themselves represent all black people? I think rappers are like any other type of artist or poet, they are extremely individual and no two are exactly alike. Just like everybody else, you have to take each individual as an individual…I would advise you to do the same, don’t assume you know what people are thinking…ask them what they think.
it’s a stereotype that people who don’t know many black people think is real. just as some people think all muslims are terrorists and all communists are evil. people stereotype other people all the time because they don’t know any better, it’s just an accident.
however when you confront them on this of course they are going to give another reason. people are so worried about being accused of being racist some times they seem to be racist. if people weren’t so obsessed about racism things wouldn’t be so bad.
for example that skit on Hey Hey it’s saturday the other night in Australia. the american judge accused australian’s of being racist because some guys had painted their faces black (one guy had his face painted white) in australia it’s no big deal, those guys weren’t dressing up to make fun or mock black people, they were dressing up at the jackson 5 who happen to be black so it makes sense that painting they have black skin as part of their costumes. but the rest of the world is so worried about hurting black peoples feelings that they are unconsciously being racist.
racism is when you treat someone differently because of their race- whether it be worse or better treatment. so in this case that was overlooked- these guys were dressing up as a band and tried to look like the band, if they were dressing up as the rolling stones or muse no one would of had a problem with their costumes so there should not be a problem with dressing up as the jackson 5 because they were treating a black band just as they would treat any other band.
i know stereotypes are annoying, whether they are about race, sex, age, etc but if you educate people about them it helps break them down and they won’t make the mistake of wrongly thinking all black people like rap again.
Why do many people of other races think that all white people like country music?
Why do most all black people think racism defines all white people??
The answer IS steroetyping. It IS just plain old prejudice….And it IS racism
