I use cubase LE on a PC, but it should do just as good, if not better on a mac. Its actually the generic version of a more advanced Cubase, there are several others, that came with my Focusrite interface. I use that to input and record via firewire however my PC is a little short on RAM, so i have a bit of latency despite the adjustments. Its great for looping samples and adding drums. It has a bunch of effects, eq, etc etc, Couple that with the Focurite, and i have a pretty advanced system considering the money i spent.
Its been almost three years now so i’m sure you can get more advanced versions of the Focusrite and Cubase. You might already have the interface but its necessary if you want to make a quality finished product.
Thats about all i can tell you from my experience.
