How did RZA make beats like "Bring Da Ruckus" sound so dark and sinister with so little?

Ive been workin on beats for a while and trying to learn the techniques of the trade but how in the world did he do that on that beat?! Do any producers know?

    Yeah, I know.

The production on 36 chambers seems simple, but at the same time complete. I love the nasty vibe RZA brings to the album. Same goes for Mobb Deep on The Infamous. Havoc’s drums are ridiculously ill…

I think it’s the bold piano note you hear every few seconds in the background, it’s very subtle. (Like at 3:00)

If you want to hear more sinister sounding beats check out the beats on "Movies For The Blind"

I think he used the SP 1200 so that probably had a big part in it.
