How can i report a dirty restaurant to the health inspector? I live in South Dakota…any suggestions?

I recently dined at a "China Star Buffet"…what a mistake! It was SO filthy, greasy, and dirty. I can’t believe people go there! I tried to email the city government…no answers yet.

Call the BBB and they will put you in touch with the local food inspector

drop a hair in your food and say it was already in there

  3. J L says:

File a formal complaint with the health inspectors office. First go to your local government’s website.

  4. suzanne g says:

It’s the county health inspector you want. Look at County listings in phone book. Or website - there may even be a way to email your complaint.

  5. Pam H says:

Call the health department and let them know.

Call the County health department. THe city won’t help you as it isn’t their jurisdiction.

  7. Jenny K says:

Report it to the county health department. Should be the county the restaurant is located in.

I would call or email your local news channel and newspaper…. publicity about the dirty place will spread, and no doubt a health inspector will be called in then!

  9. Patricia M says:

They may not contact you. They will probably check out your complaint.

    CALL THE LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Your phone book should have a listing of all the local government offices.

Writing to your local newspaper might get a faster response! LOL.

contact the health inspector or a local news station so they will announce it to the viewing audience

The local News channels usually love to get ahold of stuff like this. They do investigative stories on "Dirty Dining" and I’m certain that the Board of Health takes a greater interest once such a thing is publicized.

China Star Buffet sounds a lot like any Chinese buffet I have ever seen across the country. They’re always like that. If your too good for greasy, then spend more money at a nicer restaurant.

Go to the link provided below that provides instructions on how to file a complaint against a food service establishment.

  17. soccer says:

If they don’t respond soon contact your city’s health department and file a MAJOR complaint! Tell them that you have contacted the government. If they are not taking it seriously, take the restaurant to small claims court.

There is a difference between filthy and greasy. Make sure you know what it is. Just because you didnt like the experience or the food doesn’t mean there are rats running around the kitchen with wontons in their mouths. Plus unless you saw a direct violation the health inspector will not do anything. your complaint will be logged and that is all.

Go to the South Dakota department of health website at http://doh.sd.gov or you may call (605)-773-3364 Monday -Friday 8am-5 pm. Good luck and thank you for the heads up!

    Try calling them.

I know exactly which restaurant you are talking about. It consistently ranks at the bottom of all restaurants in Sioux Falls for cleanliness. Here’s a link to the Sioux Falls health inspector: http://www.siouxfalls.org/Health.aspx. You’ll have to click Heath department on the list. It has a spot to contact them by phone or email. The best thing to do is to avoid a restaurant that doesn’t value safety. Bad word of mouth will eventually do it’s job.
